Hi friends. Thank you for being a part of The Circle Of Freethinkers!
The theme for my writing this month is: North Star.
In today’s poem, “A flightless arrow”, I let my imagination run wild to conjure up images of pointlessness.
With a point—or purpose—life has deep meaning and fulfillment. This can be something specific like writing a bestselling novel or more general like raising a loving family or a beautiful garden. Most importantly, having a direction to point to in life allows us to live in the present moment—in the peace of knowing that our life is right on track.
So, essentially, know where you’re going in life…but don’t take it too seriously. Know where you’re pointing to so that you can be here to experience joy in the present moment.

What’s a trip without a destination,
Or a ship at sea without navigation?
A train on a track without a next station,
Is like a flightless arrow...just decoration.
Can a toll exist without a fare,
How about a path that leads nowhere?
If you can't sit on it is it still a chair?
And what is a barber who cuts no hair?
Who wants to play golf without any holes,
Have desires without any goals,
Own a wheel that never rolls,
Or take a vote but never count the polls?
Because an elevator with no floors,
Is like a jug that never pours,
Allowance without any chores,
Or a sports match with no scores.
What good is a chairlift without a peak,
An orator who refuses to speak,
A plumber who can’t fix a leak,
Or a nudist with an aversion to streak?
What's a spaceship without a mission?
Or an intentional life without a vision,
Sounds must be heard or there’s no musician,
And is it a holiday if there's no tradition?
A business that offers nothing to buy,
Is like a winged beast that will never fly,
A crowbar that will never pry,
Or a shoelace that will never tie.
Can she be a creator if there’s no creation,
Can there be joy if there's no elation,
Is it a trial with no deliberation?
Can you feel something if there’s no sensation?
Because an unlit lantern gets lost in the dark,
And things feel off in a tree-barren park.
A human without purpose is a flint with no spark,
And the flightless arrow always misses the mark.
We all need to point forward with hands on the plow,
It makes life meaningful, and this I avow,
A north star lets us flow and be one with the Tao,
To live our true purpose...being here in the now.
