1 Creation From Me

“Voices” — a poem

(Click the play button at the top to watch the video)

I awaken with so many thoughts,
So many choices,
So much to consider,
So many voices,
So much to do,
So much on my list,
So much to accomplish,
There must be something I’ve missed.
So I tally, take score, and play it over again,
Down the spiral I plummet, will this ever end?
Yes! These voices must go,
These voices that steal,
My time and my peace,
My ability to heal…and they’re not even real!
They’re phantoms, devils, demons, and ghosts,
Viruses that destroy lives and sometimes kill off their hosts.
But no! Not I, not my time to go,
Just time for the voices to stay backstage for this show.
It’s simple, undeniable, even my dog knows the truth.
I once knew it too, but it got buried in youth,
Covered over in decades of pain, shame, and wounds,
Sometimes I wonder, did I start teaching too soon?
Because the voices still come around and they haunt me,
But I discovered the truth, so I jumped, and the universe caught me,
And continues to catch me, again and again,
Now the voices fuel me as I cover this paper with pen.
And then, in the silence, I remember I’m free,
An end to the violence, the vanishing of me…
The small me, the voices: anxious, full of fear,
Dissolves into nothing and freedom is here.
Always inside, the True Self, I’m now seeing,
Call it God or All That Is, it’s my inner being.
And it’s all yours too, only in silence will you hear,
The truth that there’s nothing, no nothing to fear.
This is the awakening, I was sleeping before,
When the devil tiptoed in and started taking…and taking more.
But like iron forged in fire, I’m a warrior now,
A light in the darkness for those ready, but don’t know how,
To silence their voices and stop feeding the fire,
To discover their peace amidst unquenchable desire,
To discover their one true voice—on silence it is fed,
It lives in their heart, far away from their head,
Not the voices saying, “Do more, try harder, prove worth”.
The one voice saying, “Relax, you are enough, and you’ve been worthy since birth.”

1 Quote From Another

Spiritual teacher (and creator of some of my favorite guided meditations) Mooji says this about the mind—and the voices in our heads:

“You have nothing in this world to conquer or to challenge or to transcend, apart from your mind.”

1 Question For You

When your mind attacks, what is one thing you can do—in that moment—to come back to peace?

If this resonated, pass it along to someone who might need it today. Let’s grow this circle!
